Career Achievements

A true natural and genius on the mat, Jacarra Winchester’s rise and early exposure to wrestling strayed far away from the typical story. Starting from her Junior year of high school, Winchester showed and flexed her skilled agility during competitions, as she quickly progressed and passed through the ranks and took home the title of the California CIF Girls State Championship only a year into wrestling. During her collegiate career in Missouri Valley College, Winchester continued to fly in terms of talent as she became the 2013 WCWA national runner-up, and eventually earned the spot as the 2015 WCWA national champion- all while balancing and excelling in academics as an accounting major. She then continued onwards in defining true excellence, as she secured her spot in multiple U.S. World Teams in becoming a Final X Champion throughout multiple tournaments and a four-time U.S. Open Champion before taking her endeavors on a global level. There, as a five-time U.S. World Team member from 2018 to 2024, Winchester represented the nation and secured home gold at the 2019 World Champion while simultaneously becoming one of the three American female wrestlers to win during the year. Winchester was also a dominant force during the 2020 U.S. Olympics in Tokyo, as she finished in fifth place overall, and within only one year later, she also was named the 2021 Pan American Champion receiving gold. Her story and pathway as a trendsetter is one that represents skill, talent, hardwork, grit, and drive that dominates and propels her longevity throughout the breadth of her career.

Her Story

Born and raised in October 19, 1992, Oakland, California, Winchester was not conventionally exposed or raised in a wrestling-centric household. Early on while she attended Arroyo High School, Winchester was a member of both the cross-country and track teams until she pivoted to wrestling as she had felt her interest in running was short lived and sought to explore other avenues in sports. Immediately, after winning states her senior year, Winchester was strongly encouraged by her high school coach in continuing wrestling throughout her college career. However, her pathway afterwards was no easy feat to conquer. Joining the Missouri Valley Men’s Wrestling team, Winchester was not willing to take the hardships without gain. Instead of seeing the disadvantage she faced as the only woman in the training room, she viewed it as the perfect opportunity to grow and become better than her normal competition; Winchester would double her workloads and participate in twice the workouts after completing training from the women’s practice. Her goal? Obtaining the national title under any circumstance- and she did just that. She then expanded the horizons of her profession by training at the United States Olympic Center, which further propelled her techniques to the next level. However, after tearing her ACL and meniscus during practice, she had still maintained an incredible drive and commitment to stay on track in fighting for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team; a testament to her incredible initiative.

Her Impact

With numerous obstacles and burdens placed along the way, from the start of her passion to the endings of her journey, Winchester had never allowed anyone or anything to move or discourage her from chasing what she believed and wanted for herself. In overcoming her physical injuries and battling the expectations placed by society, she has navigated and regarded opinions of her capabilities being otherwise with the same expertise and ease as she does with her performance. She now dedicates her time in uplifting young athletes and helps them develop the skills and techniques essential to the sport through clinics and sporting events located in her hometown.
